UPDATE - May 7, 2021
Today, participants and coaches received an email with information about preparing for the National Competition.
Update on the Team Round
During the team round competition students may use the screensharing and/or whiteboard features in their Zoom meeting room. These features have the ability to enhance collaboration between team members in a manner similar to an in-person event but are still monitorable by the State Team Lead Coach and the proctor. Please note:
- When a team member is sharing their screen they should only be sharing the AoPS Contest Platform page and should open no other windows or applications.
- The whiteboard feature should only function as a way to share work or problem notes in lieu of being able to view each other’s physical work.
- As stated in previous communications, students are not permitted to use Google Docs, Microsoft Office Online or any other similar collaboration tools outside of the Zoom meeting room’s embedded features.

UPDATE - April 26, 2021
Today, national competitors and coaches received an email with info about:
- Completing the Fun Survey of the Week
- Team Round, Written Competition and Fun Countdown Round event details
Though we’re planning a lot of fun social events, we know the competitive events are the ones you probably have the most questions about. Here’s what national competitors and coaches should know:
- Team Round (Sunday, May 9 at 12pm ET): an unofficial Team Round hosted on the AoPS Contest Platform. MATHCOUNTS will provide a Zoom meeting room and an online proctor for each state team. The results of this round won’t affect Mathletes’ ranking in the official competition, but the top-scoring team will receive a prize.
- Written Competition (Monday, May 10 at 12pm ET): an official Sprint & Target Round to determine the 2021 National Champion. This will run just like the Chapter, Chapter Invitational and State competitions on the AoPS Contest Platform. MATHCOUNTS will provide an online proctor for each Mathlete, and Mathletes should plan to connect online with that proctor at approximately 11:45. Specific details on how to connect with your proctor will be sent next week.
- Fun Countdown Round Event (Monday, May 10 at 3:14pm ET): an unofficial Countdown Round hosted on the National Competition Event Platform. MATHCOUNTS will select 16 Mathletes to participate in this round based on interest expressed during registration (not the top Written Competition scorers). The results of this round won’t affect Mathletes’ ranking in the official competition, but the top students will receive a prize.
